Creating the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium

Discover the advanced construction process and technology utilizing BIM for the world-famous stadium".

Building with BIM

Tristán López-Chicheri and Alejandro Lorca Melton's presentation at BIMobject live 2020 provided a fascinating insight into the creation of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and the many challenges faced during this construction. Their discussion shed light on how BIM played a crucial success in the project, enabling innovative new working methods.

The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is an iconic landmark in Madrid and one of the most renowned football stadiums in the world. The renovation of such a massive structure is a complex task involving many stakeholders. The presentation highlighted how collaboration and communication between the different parties were made possible by using BIM.

Discover the impact of BIM in modernizing complex projects

One of the most significant challenges faced during the stadium renovation was maintaining the integrity of the original structure while implementing the necessary changes to modernize it. BIM enabled architects to visualize how the changes would impact the original design and helped them identify areas of improvement and optimization.

It is clear that BIM has revolutionized the construction industry, and the Santiago Bernabéu is a prime example of how it can be used to overcome the challenges of the most complex projects. This video is a must-watch for anyone interested in the future of construction and architecture.

Get a taste of the building process:

The Bernabéu façade is parametric. It is based on 3D lines in space, which change your perception of scale as you get closer to the façade. You can see the whole volume from about 120 meters away, but as you get closer, these lines change in reference and scale down the building.”

BIM has changed our methodology, how we go about a project from the beginning to the end. It changes the requirements for the staff, and it requires continuous training because BIM itself is changing.”

We have done more than 50 projects in BIM and we have BIM teams at our three main offices in Madrid, Barcelona and Paris. We collaborate with all consultants and engineers through BIM tools."

You have to fully embrace the technology to take advantage of all of the possibilities it has. It was a great journey for us, and we are still looking at ways to automate all our processes and take better advantage of BIM.“
