BIM CONTENT DEVELOPMENT

Get your products specified

On commercial and public projects, architects and engineers increasingly design in BIM, short for Building Information Modelling. If your products aren't available as BIM objects, they often won't be considered when it's time to specify.

THE PROBLEM

If your products aren't in the model, someone else's are.

Architects and engineers use BIM software like Revit and Archicad to design and specify products. On many commercial and public projects, product decisions are made inside the model. If a competitor's BIM object is already placed, swapping it out takes extra work. Most architects don't bother.

01 — Discovery

Specifiers search for products inside their BIM tools. If yours isn't there, they find a competitor that is.

02 — Specification

Once a BIM object is placed in a model, it's rarely swapped. The specification often carries all the way to procurement.

03 — Mandate pressure

The systematic use of the BIM method, as well as official requirements, is growing across the world. The window to get ahead is now.

WHAT WE DO

We build BIM objects the specifiers actually use.

Our in-house team handles everything from scope to publication. You get BIM objects that meet AEC professional standards, built to your product range, and a direct digital connection to the architects, engineers, and contractors who decide what gets specified, installed, and maintained, not just a file that checks a box.

BIM Content development

We build accurate, downloadable BIM objects for Revit, Archicad, and other major BIM platforms. Geometry, materials, and technical data included.

BIM Content strategy

We scope your product range with you, prioritising the objects that will have the most impact on specifiers and architects in your target markets.

Localised expertise

Our consultants understand local standards and naming conventions. Your BIM objects meet the requirements architects expect in each market.

Content maintenance

Products change. We keep your BIM objects current as they do, protecting the value of the BIM content you've already invested in and making sure specifiers have accurate data.

"Having quality-built Revit content makes a huge difference over just checking the box saying yes, we have a file."

Jackie Goodwin, Senior BIM Consultant, BIMobject

Our QA process

1

We run automated and manual checks across geometry, materials, parameters, and types.

2

We go back and forth with the development team until every issue is resolved.

3

You review and approve the models before anything is published. Nothing goes live without your sign-off.

HOW IT WORKS

From brief to published in five steps.

We've developed a clear process over thousands of BIM Content Development projects. You stay informed at each stage.

1

Introduction

We learn about your products, markets, and goals.

2

Scope discovery

We define which products to prioritise and in what format.

3

Scope review

You review and approve the scope before development starts.

4

Development

Our BIM developers build your objects to the agreed spec.

5

Publication

Your finished BIM objects are ready to be downloaded, placed in models, and specified.

FAQ

Questions manufacturers ask us most

At minimum, we need a 3D model or 2D drawing plus a technical data sheet for each product, that's enough for us to start. Information on materials, textures, and finishes is useful but optional; if you're not sure what you have, the free consultation will tell you exactly what we need and what can wait.

You don't need to digitize your whole range at once. A useful rule of thumb: most manufacturers generate roughly 80% of their revenue from about 20% of their product portfolio, so that's usually the smartest place to start. Beyond revenue, we also weigh which products are most requested by architects and engineers, which are strategically important for sales, and which carry sustainability requirements. We help you map this out during the free consultation."

No. The most common reason manufacturers hesitate is a lack of BIM knowledge, and that's completely normal. Our BIM consultants handle all the technical work. We explain everything in plain terms and make sure you understand what you're approving before anything is built.

You don't need BIM software or a BIM team in-house. You just need to know your products.

Ideally both, because architectural firms that work in Revit rarely work in Archicad, and vice versa. Developing in both formats means you reach the widest possible audience of specifiers.

If budget is a constraint, we recommend prioritising Revit first. It's the most widely used BIM software globally. We can plan the scope around your budget and add Archicad later.

Every BIM object we deliver goes through both automated and manual QA checks covering geometry, parameters, materials, and product types. If issues are found, we revise until everything meets our standards. This can take several rounds.

You review and approve the models before anything is published. Nothing goes live without your sign-off.

The goal isn't to recreate every bolt, it's to include the information that makes a difference to the person using the file. That means accurate geometry, materials, textures, and product data.

A BIM object that's too heavy or too complex will put architects, designers and engineers off. One that's well-built works for every use case: space planning, lighting analysis, MEP engineering. We scope the right level of detail for your product type during the discovery phase.

We've developed projects for all product categories, including HVAC and MEP, furniture, doors and windows, flooring and finishes, lighting, sanitary, building materials, and specialty equipment.

If you're not sure whether your product qualifies, ask us in your free consultation.

Products change over time, and so do BIM software standards. If you're on our BIM Content Maintenance service, we check in once a year with a report of the data currently in your BIM files, so you can confirm what's changed. We then update the objects accordingly, so specifiers always have accurate data.
